Each year they take place in Manchester and celebrate the very best of the North’s creative digital sector. I had been invited to attend as I had been shortlisted for the ‘Little Chip’ award for my work on our International Women’s Day event ‘Women Change Manchester’. I felt a little bit nervous to attend the event but also very flattered to have been nominated by my colleagues at SharpFutures.

First, a little background about myself. My name is Amy Williams and I am the Discover Executive at SharpFutures. SharpFutures Discover is the education department of the social enterprise, SharpFutures and is about highlighting the exciting careers opportunities in the creative digital sector in Greater Manchester. My role is really varied but includes: organising school tours and experience days around The Sharp Project and Space Studios Manchester[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]I also help organise a wide range of other events for students and teachers including careers days, volunteer events, TV skills workshops and Manchester Coderdojo as well as participate in large scale events like the recent Andy Burnham mayoral campaign launch.

I am also a member of the SharpFutures Studio team producing graphics, design and brand assets for a wide range of SharpFutures clients. I am also a documentary director and producer for SharpFutures FRAMED

At the weekends I am a camera operator for MUTV.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_gallery type=”nivo” interval=”15″ images=”6413,6414″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]I have recently completed my first Level 3 apprenticeship with SharpFutures in Creative Digital Media and I am now about to move onto my second apprenticeship which is in Level 4 Digital Marketing. Throughout my first apprenticeship, I have developed new and existing skills such as filming, editing, photography and graphic design. This led me on to work on our project for International Women’s Day ‘Women Change Manchester’

Women Change Manchester was a creative video project and event that I co-ordinated with the focus on giving a platform to inspiring Mancunian women’s voices from a diverse section of society from the past and the present. The films featured business and cultural leaders from present day Manchester speaking about past inspirational women who they think made a significant impact on Manchester and wider society in their time. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]International Women’s Day is always a great team effort and everyone gets involved, I was the lead Project Manager of the event and was supported by the talent managers and production team and worked with fellow apprentices and POD members in SharpFutures. I co-ordinated the production aspect of the project which involved researching the initial ideas through to supporting the filming in the green screen studios at The Sharp Project, scouting out and then filming in locations across Manchester ahead of screening the films on International Women’s Day. The event was a huge success and was attended by young women from colleges and sixth forms across Greater Manchester. Please see the Storify for the event by clicking here[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]As well as organising the event, I created posters, social media and a brochure for on the day that detailed the Women Change Manchester project.

To find out I had been nominated for the Big Chip Award ‘Little Chip’ for this project was simply amazing.

The Big Chip Awards took place at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester, and I attended with my line manager Rachael McGuinness and CEO Rose Marley. It was a great honour to attend such an event and really exciting to be in a room so full of inspirational businesses from across the Creative Digital sector.  I’ve never been to the Hilton before so that made everything even more exciting!

My award wasn’t called out till much later, and it was great to see my fellow Sharp Project tenants Silverchip win ‘Best Mobile App’  When it came to the Little Chip award being announced I was extremely nervous as I knew how such good quality all the nominations were for all the awards, and when they announced it and I won, I simply couldn’t believe it, it was such an honour and I am still in shock! It was amazing to meet so many different people and hear about everything they do I was so inspired by everyone, the event was brilliant and it was great fun to attend it.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”6418,6419,6420,6421,6416,6415,6417″][vc_column_text]I really enjoy working in the creative digital sector, every single day is completely different and so exciting. Working with SharpFutures allows me to access and develop a lot of different skills and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.

I still can’t believe I won the ‘Little Chip’ award, I can’t thank the judges and the Big Chip Awards enough for such an amazingly inspirational night and well done to all the other nominees and winners of the night!

I’m just about to start my Level 4 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship and I can’t wait to see what other opportunities come my way and I hope to be writing another blog just like this again very soon!
