Digital Content Creation Course: What You Will Learn

Course Details

Content is king and never more so than now. Through this custom-built online transition course you will learn how to create short-form content that is appealing and dynamic but most importantly meets a brief and makes your skills employable. Develop the skills you already have and learn new skills that employers are looking for right now.

Week One

Week one is all about the induction – we’ll start you off on the right foot with an overview of The Sharp Project, Space Studios and SharpFutures POD.

You’ll meet the Course Managers and will be assigned your SharpFutures Buddy – a SharpFutures POD member who will be your go-to person should you have any queries.

You will be given your creative brief from Ocean Outdoor Chief Marketing Director who will challenge you to think about screen content and the story it needs to tell.

Your first assignment will be a Storytelling Workshop with BBC and Google trainer Steve Rawling  – Steve will work with you on storytelling, audiences, hooks, and the all-important differences between stories, facts and opinions.

You’ll also have an Audio Recording session with Reform Radio – here you’ll learn some top tips for recording basic audio and sound quality across all your content.

Week Two

Week two is where you’ll enter the treasure trove of our online learning platforms. These hand-picked courses will be available for you to access at your convenience – you can take up to 15 weeks to complete them:

  • Social Media – one of the growing reasons for companies needing content creators is the proliferation of social media. To create great content you need to understand your audience, and we’re going to start with Instagram.
  • Photography – Regardless of what your level of experience is or what type of camera you use, this in-depth course is designed to provide you with everything you need to take your photography skills to the next level. By honing these skills, you’ll be ready to take the next steps in your content creation career
  • Editing – Adobe Premiere Pro is used by professional editors all over the world for every type of production from documentaries to marketing videos. By the end of the course you’ll have edited a short documentary!

To give you a head-start with your editing we’ll be running an Editing Masterclass with film maker and premier specialist Alex Macleod, focusing on Getting The Foundations Right.

Week Three

You’ll continue working through your online learning, enhancing your Social Media Photography and Editing skills. The handpicked courses allow you to work at your own pace and in your own time so you can fit it around other commitments.

You’ll also have the chance to attend the first of three Virtual Masterclasses with professional photographer Lauren Hira of Lightwerks studio. Lauren will share the secrets of capturing behind-the-scenes photos of events, tours and groups.

Week Four

This week, you will continue your online learning, with our Social Media, Photography and Editing skills – there are so many tips and tricks to learn. You’ll also have a one to one with the Course Manager to discuss the creative briefs for ITV, SharpFutures and Ocean Outdoor.

Week Five

This week you can bring all the skills that you’ve learned in our masterclasses and build up your experience using Adobe Premiere Pro and Social Media apps.

There is then the second of three Virtual Masterclasses with professional photographer Lauren Hira of Lightwerks studio. Lauren will share the secrets of capturing the perfect headshot, why they are so important to get right and the techniques for working with people.

Week Six

It’s time for the second Editing Masterclass with film maker and premier specialist Alex Macleod from MediaCity Training. After mastering the basics, and building on your online learning, Alex will help you focus on taking your edit skills to the next level.

You’ll also have a masterclass from Ocean Outdoor about the creative future of advertising. You will be given more exciting details for your creative brief from Ocean Outdoor Chief Marketing Director, who will challenge you to think about screen content and the story it needs to tell.

Week Seven

It’s time to work on your creative briefs from Ocean Outdoor, ITV and SharpFutures POD, bringing all the learnings from your masterclasses together. From storytelling and ideas generation to understanding the brief and pitching. It’s your chance to demonstrate your creativity and technical skills, with video, audio, photography and social. 

You’ll also have your final Virtual Masterclass with professional photographer Lauren Hira of Lightwerks studio. Lauren will show you how to use your camera effectively and editing tech to make all your pictures perfect.

Week Eight

Time for you to reflect on all the skills and experiences that you’ve had over the past weeks. Catch up with any online learning, re-watch the masterclasses available on SharpFutures on demand service and discuss with the Course Managers your creative briefs projects.

Week Nine to Sixteen

You can take between eight and sixteen weeks to complete the course and at the end of the transition you will be interviewed by the SharpFutures Directors and talent teams to secure paid work in the sector via SharpFutures POD.

In early December, we will hold a virtual graduation for all those who have completed the course.
