Creating a Google Chrome Web App

Creating a Google Chrome Web App

I was bored one evening and thought it’d be a good idea to look around and see how to do various stuff with code.   I stumbled onto various YouTube videos which showed how to create a web app in Google Chrome.

I decided to have a look and see if I could do this myself.   All I needed was a PNG image and a manifest file.

JSON stands for JavaScript Object Notation and servers as an alternative to the XML format.  Its primary purpose like XML is to store information, it uses plain readable English which makes it very easy to code with.

The code I used is below.

As you can see it has different variables but all of them are in standard English.  It has a description, a name, and the URLs to which the web app will link to.  There is also an “icons” section which sets what icon the web app will have.

It takes about 5 mins to create a web app, and what makes this really useful? Is that many companies are offering a massive pay out of about $500(US) and more just for someone to create a web app.  $500 for 5 minutes work, think about that as a career.

You can even create Google Chrome extensions, which does require a little more work but not much.  You can check out the excellent video from Gigafide on YouTube for more information on how to do this below.
