Former POD, Jessica Higgins, is currently working as a Social Media Community Manager at Smoking Gun PR. Considered an expert in her field, she has worked with large consumer brands such as: Imperial Leather, Aldi, Original Source, Oven Pride, Silentnight, Childs Farm, Avis, Carex and Visit Wales.

Jessica took control of her career at the age of eighteen whilst working in a well-known fast food restaurant. She made the decision not to go to university, she knew she wanted to get stuck into a full-time job. Jessica began applying for creative-digital entrant programmes across Manchester and found that time after time she was caught in the digital catch 22; being rejected because she didn’t have any previous experience.

Trying hard not to become dejected, she found SharpFutures POD – a new entrant service that didn’t require previous experience. The programme supported her ambitions in Social media by connecting her with work experience within The Sharp Project. This vital taster of the industry was a big help when she re-applied for the Juice academy apprenticeship scheme, this time to be successful.

Working hard throughout her apprenticeship she excelled in all areas of digital marketing/social media and the Juice Academy matched her with Weber Shandwick who continued to employ her after she successfully completed her level 3 apprenticeship. When she was looking for her next challenge she knew that SharpFutures POD was there for her to pick up flexible work that fitted her skillset and allowed her to practice her craft until she was confident in her choice to move to an executive level position at Smoking Gun PR.
