Welcome to our Digital Leaders from St Margaret's!
St Margaret’s Digital Leaders attended their Creative Digital Experience day at The Sharp Project on Tuesday 7th June with SharpFutures Discover. They got an insight as to some of the careers available to them in the industry in the future, and also got to have a go at some hands on coding activities as well as some Green Screen Journalism!
Green Screen Journalism
As said by us all, they were one of the best groups that got involved with this workshop. They were up for trying out each role (Camera Operator, Sound Technician, Director, Presenter, Interviewee) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Their task was to create a news report about The Sharp Project, we had a team ‘in the studio’ and a team ‘onsite’. The news report involved interviews with one student ‘onsite at The Sharp Project’ and we had some facts from our Studio presenter. The news report was one of the best we had seen, with them telling the viewers facts such as there being over 60 businesses at The Sharp Project and that the building is all about space, connectivity and power.
The students got involved in a range of activities. First of all using SonicPi the students had to fix the Tetris theme tune by fixing some of the lines of code that were incorrect. After this using Scracth on a RaspberryPi, they had to create a Rockband, the students were already wizzes at this as they have used this technology at school which was brilliant to hear, they may have even know more than some of their teachers! They then also got the chance to play with a MakeyMakey. This is an electronic circuit that can turn anything into a keyboard. we plugged in bananas and they were playing the keyboard with them! We then had a go at connecting it to Aleena’s hair, and by touching her cheek it played the piano! Impressive!

We got some wonderful feedback from the digital leaders! They even tweeted that is was “The best day ever!”. One student said their experience was “Fun, Interesting and Exciting”. Whilst another had said his visit was “amazing and outstanding”

After their experience day they then also came to The Sharp Project again for our monthly Coderdojo!
Thank you to our Digital Leaders for a brilliant day! You were all fantastic!
